(A) Once upon a time in Persia, there was a merchant who traveled the world for his business. On one of his journeys to India, he received a beautiful parrot as a gift and named him Tuti. He loved Tuti deeply and put him in a shiny golden cage. Days passed, but no matter how much the merchant cared for his parrot, the colorful bird seemed sad. Before leaving for India again, the merchant asked Tuti, “What present would you like (a) me to bring from India?”
(B) Shocked and with tears trickling down his face, the merchant held Tuti in his arms. Suddenly, he flew and escaped through a window into the garden. “Why are (b) you acting like this?” he asked Tuti. “This is a trick my friend taught me to regain my freedom by playing dead. You are a good master, but I am a bird and I wish to be free, not live my life in a cage,” answered Tuti.
