반면 카메라는 세상을 impartially 기록하고 해석하지 않으므로, 빈칸은 ③ interrupts … objective가 정답입니다. as seen from ~, interfere with, not A but B, 계속적 용법 , which를 함께 정리했습니다.

Vision is influenced by our preconceptions about reality. In viewing a scene, we establish unconscious hierarchies that reflect our functional relationship to objects and our momentary priorities. For example, when visualizing a hammer in our mind’s eye, we tend to “see” it in profile or at some other “ready for use” angle. One would probably not visualize a hammer as seen from the top so that the handle is hidden by the hammer’s head. The functional relationship we have with objects creates visual expectations that interfere with our ability to see “like a camera.” The camera, like the human eye, sees only shapes and colors. It documents the world impartially through a lens that is similar to the eye. When we look at them carefully, photographs are often surprising because they don’t interpret confusing details but simply serve them up to us with a mechanical indifference. And because of their flatness, photographs often contain areas that appear as unrecognizable colors and shapes.
Our visual perception is shaped by an established hierarchy based on functional relationships, which (A) our ability to see objects as they truly are, unlike the (B) perspective of a camera.

Vision is influenced by our 선입견preconceptions about reality. / In viewing a scene, we establish 무의식적인unconscious 위계hierarchies that reflect our functional relationship to objects and our 순간적인momentary 우선순위priorities. / 예를 들어For example, when 머릿속에 그리다visualizing a hammer in our mind’s eye, we tend to “see” it in 옆모습profile or at some other “ready for use” angle. / One would probably not visualize a hammer as seen from the top so that the handle is hidden by the hammer’s head.

구문 — be influenced by ~ / In V-ing / tend to V / as seen from ~ / so that ~

In viewing a scene '한 장면을 볼 때'(전치사 + 동명사). hierarchies that reflect ~의 that은 주격 관계대명사. when visualizing a hammer는 접속사를 남긴 분사구문. as seen from the top은 as it is seen에서 주어와 be동사가 생략된 형태. so that the handle is hidden은 결과 '그래서 ~되도록'.

VOCABULARY

The functional relationship we have with objects creates visual 기대expectations that 방해하다interfere with our ability to see “like a camera.” / The camera, like the human eye, sees only shapes and colors. / It 기록하다documents the world 공정하게impartially through a lens that is similar to the eye.

반면 카메라는 impartially(공정하게) 형태와 색만 기록함 → (A)에는 interfere with를 바꿔 말한 interrupts, (B)에는 impartially를 바꿔 말한 objective가 들어갈 자리.

구문 — 목적격 관계대명사 생략 / interfere with / ability to V / like ~ (전치사)

The functional relationship (that) we have with objects: 목적격 관계대명사가 생략됨. expectations that interfere with our ability to see에서 that은 주격 관계대명사, ability to V는 '~하는 능력'. The camera, like the human eye, sees ~의 like는 전치사 '~처럼'이고 삽입구.

VOCABULARY

★ expectation 기대 / ★ interfere with ~을 방해하다 / ★ ability 능력 / ★ shape 형태 / ★ document 기록하다 / ★ impartially 공정하게, 편견 없이 / ★ lens 렌즈 / ★ similar to ~와 비슷한

When we look at them carefully, photographs are often surprising because they don’t interpret 혼란스러운confusing details but simply 내놓다serve them up to us with a mechanical 무관심indifference. / And because of their 평면성flatness, photographs often contain areas that appear as 알아볼 수 없는unrecognizable colors and shapes.

구문 — not A but B / serve ~ up to / because of + 명사 / appear as ~

they don’t interpret confusing details but simply serve them up to us는 not A but B로 동사 두 개가 대조됨. because of their flatness는 전치사구(이유), 앞의 because they don’t interpret ~은 접속사절이라 형태가 다름. areas that appear as unrecognizable colors의 appear as는 '~로 보이다'.

VOCABULARY

요약문 · (A) interrupts · (B) objective → ③ 정답

Our visual perception is shaped by an 확립된established hierarchy based on functional relationships, which ③ interrupts 방해한다(A) our ability to see objects as they truly are, unlike the ③ objective 객관적인(B) perspective of a camera.

(A) 본문의 visual expectations that interfere with our ability to see “like a camera” → interfere with = interrupt(방해하다). 따라서 ① ④ enhances(향상시킨다), ② simplifies(단순화한다)는 정반대이거나 근거 없음. (B) 카메라는 세상을 impartially(공정하게) 기록하고 해석하지 않으므로 objective(객관적인)가 알맞음.

구문 — be shaped by ~ / based on ~ / , which (계속적 용법) / as they truly are / unlike ~

an established hierarchy based on functional relationships: based on ~이 hierarchy를 뒤에서 꾸밈. , which (A) our ability ~의 which는 앞의 위계를 받는 계속적 용법이고 뒤에 동사가 와야 하므로 (A)는 3인칭 단수 동사. as they truly are '그것들이 실제로 그러한 대로'. unlike the (B) perspective의 unlike 뒤는 명사구라 (B)에는 형용사가 들어감.

VOCABULARY

(A) 근거 본문 interfere with our ability to see “like a camera” → interrupts
(B) 근거 본문 documents the world impartially · don’t interpret → objective

3. Core Summary

Because we see objects through a hierarchy built on how we use them, our expectations block the neutral, camera-like view that records only shapes and colors without interpreting them.

Core Summary Vocabulary

block 가로막다(interfere with) / neutral 중립적인(impartial) / record 기록하다(document) / without V-ing ~하지 않고 / interpret 해석하다

The functional relationship we have with objects creates visual expectations that interfere with our ability to see “like a camera.”
